DARLIN

DARLIN
about the artist
Studying at national art school from 2020-2022, I use my family roots in traditional functional ceramics to subvert the formal ideas of the art form. My work draws inspiration from the natural world, through fossils, ancient sea floor data, insects and transhumanism. I want to create objects that evoke ancient ceramic practices, now inscribed with my own mythologies, creating a permanent piece with incoherent ramblings combined with detailed underglaze illustrations.

Teaching ceramics has allowed me to share my love for the art, and gives others the appreciation and respect that it deserves. Functionality is important for me when it comes to my work, even my sculptures serve a purpose. blurring the line of functionality with surface decoration allows my extravagant pieces to be used either as normal household objects or be viewed as art.
